Medieval market in the Capdepera castle

The medieval market in Capdepera is a big historical festival that takes place during the third weekend of may. These days the town turns into a real medieval village. The streets are filled with craftsmen, artists, knights and traders, who create the atmosphere of the past.
The main events are held in the historical city centre and the Capdepera castle that was built in the XIV century. Long ago, the castle was a defensive fortress against pirates. It was well preserved and today its walls offer fantastic views of the island and the sea.
The medieval market in Capdepera is not just a fair but it’s a real historical festival with an intense programme. The participants recreate scenes from the life of medieval Capdepera, including the arrival of king Jaume II and the defending of the fortress, make plays and knight duels, dressed in historical costumes.
The gastronomic part of the festival includes tastings of traditional Mallorcan products: cheese, sausages, honey, pastries, olive oil and wine. Taverns offer medieval dishes, roast meats and local liqueurs.
