Snails fair
Date: 18.05.25
Location: San Jordi. Mallorca
The snails fair is an annual gastronomy event that takes place in the village of San Jordi near Palma.
The festival was founded in 2001 by one of the local residents, who strived to improve the village’s image, famous only for its floods and proximity to the airport. He proposed to use San Jordi’s abundance of snails to create a unique festival that would make the village into the “snail capital” of Mallorca.
During the festival local restaurants and bars offer a variety of snail dishes, including a traditional snail paella. Snails are cooked with herbs in a meat broth, which gives them a special smell and a rich flavour.
In addition to food delicacies, the snail festival includes various entertainments. Snail races are especially popular among children. Young participants train their “snail athletes” and compete for prizes, watering the path for their pets and supporting them on their way to the finish line.
