Santa Lucia’s Day

Date: 13.12.25. Start at 18:45

Venue: Palma, Cathedral

In Mallorca, Saint Lucia (Santa Lucia) is celebrated following the traditions of the island’s Swedish community. This holiday is a Swedish custom that symbolizes light in the dark winter days. The central event takes place in the cathedral of Palma, where a procession is held with a chosen girl, symbolizing Saint Lucia. She wears a white dress, a red belt and a crown of lit candles. The procession also includes children dressed in traditional white robes, with a candle symbol that emphasizes the motif of light that grants hope during the dark winter nights.

The event includes performances and songs such as “Santa Lucia” which are performed to fill the atmosphere with the spirit of the holiday. The festival attracts locals and tourists, offering a unique view of the cultural diversity of Mallorca.
