Feast of Saint Anthony (San Antonio Abad) is annually celebrated in Mallorca on the 16th and 17th of January and is one of the most important traditional holidays. During these days, residents of the city of Muro participate in various events that reflect the region’s agricultural past.
On the evening of the 16th, Revetlla de Sant Antoni begins, it’s a night vigil accompanied by the entrance of the demons (dimonis), traditional music and dancing. The locals will gather around bonfires (foguerons) where they will roast local sausages: sobrassada, botifarron, and also eat espinagades (fish pies) and cocas con peppers (another type of local pies).
On January 17th the Blessing of the Animals (Beneïdes de Sant Antoni) will take place, when the owners take their pets to the church to get a blessing.
The celebrations in Muro are distinguished by their special atmosphere and commitment to tradition, making this town one of the centers for celebrating the Feast of Saint Anthony.
