Angel’s Sunday
Date: 27.04.25
Location: Palma. Mallorca
Angel’s Sunday is a bright and unforgettable day in Mallorca that is celebrated on the first Sunday after easter. The main part of the celebrations is held in the Bellver Castle in Palma, attracting thousands of people who want to partake in various events.
The tradition of celebrating Angel’s Sunday dates back to the 15th and 16th centuries, when locals would hold processions to bless bread for the needy. After a long hiatus, this custom was revived in 1982 and has since become an annual event.
The celebration includes colorful performances, musicians and drummers, astonishing castellers (human pyramids), a parade of giants – huge puppets. A special atmosphere is created by the huge statue of the Angel, which is carried out into the crowd during the festival.
The Bellver Fortress, built on a hill west of the city centre, offers visitors not only a fun event but also picturesque panoramic views. Free buses are available throughout the day to get to the fortress.
