XXVI Ancient music festival in Palma. 7.11.24, 14.11.24, 21.11.24, 30.11.24
Location: Palma
The concerts will take place in three notable locations: The Mallorcan Cathedral, the Church of Sant Francesc and la Mercè.
Medieval and Renaissance scores will be performed on ancient historical instruments.
The programme
The first concert will take place on the 7th of November in the Cathedral, with Sinfovents-Banda Municipal de Palma, Cor de Ciutat d’Ibiza and Capella Mallorquina performing, conducted by Francisco Valero-Terribas, as well as soloists: Maya Planas, Yolanda Riera, Roger Berenguer, Pablo Lopez and others.

On November 14, the La Spagna ensemble, conducted by Alejandro Marías and accompanied by Jordan Fumado on harpsichord, will perform at the Church of San Francesc. Ensemble La Spagna, which got its name from one of the most famous Renaissance melodies, was founded by Marías in 2009 by uniting the best musicians-historians of his generation, The ensemble performs in two ways, both as a chamber group and as a baroque orchestra, playing operas and oratorios together with soloists and guest conductors.
La Spagna will perform Bach’s sonatas for viola da gamba (foot viol) and harpsichord.
The third event, on November 21 in the la Mercè Church, will feature the Sol Negre ensemble performing a theatrical concert Les metamorfosis, in which 17th-century English music combines with monologues of ancient myths.


The cycle will end on November 30th at the Cathedral, where Capella de la Seu, conducted by Joan Company, will perform works from “the Mass” by Cristóbal Morales, as well as contemporary compositions by Francesc Batlle and Albert Alcaraz, entitled “Sacred Music of the 16th Century”.
