“Stuck” by Angela de la Cruz

Date: 31.01.25. Starts at 19:00

Venue: Palma. Mallorca

The exhibition “Stuck” by Angela de la Cruz will open in the cultural centre Casal Solleric in Palma. This is the first exhibition of an artist from the Balearic Islands curated by Fernando Gomez de la Cuesta. Coordinated by Esther Payeras and the team of the cultural center.

Angela de la Cruz is a contemporary Spanish artist, born in 1965 in La Coruña, Spain. She is known for her unique approach to painting and sculpture, and combining these two genres. Her art is characterized by use of the canvas as a material object that she cuts, crushes, folds and deforms, exploring its physical and conceptual nature. De la Cruz destroys the traditional perception of a painting as a flat work of art, turning it into voluminous sculptural forms interacting with the surrounding space. The works of the artist are often associated with themes of vulnerability, struggle, limitations and loss, turning into powerful metaphors for human experience. Despite the deconstruction of the form, her works remain minimalist and stand out due to the attention to color and composition.

Angela de la Cruz studied philosophy in London, and then art at the University of Goldsmith, where her radical approach to painting was formed. She was widely recognized in the 1990s and nominated for the 2010 Turner Prize, one of the most prestigious awards in modern art. Her work has been exhibited in major museums and galleries, including the “Tate” gallery and the “Botin Art Center”, as well as private collections.

The exhibition “Stuck” will be the first personal exhibition of the artist, where her major works will be brought on display from Spain’s museum collection. This event will be an important landmark for art in the region and will provide a unique opportunity to see the pioneering works of the artist in real life.
