Location: Palma Cathedral

“The Song of the Sibyl” (La Sibil la) is an ancient Christian prophetic chant that is sung in Mallorca on Christmas Eve. The chant is a poetic prophecy of the Last Judgement and is one of the most unique Christmas traditions ща Spain.

In 2010, “The Song of the Sibyl” was included in the UNESCO List of Intangible Cultural Heritage, highlighting its cultural and historical significance.

On Christmas Eve, at midnight mass in the cathedrals of Mallorca, the chant is performed a cappella or with a light organ accompaniment. Traditionally, it is performed by a woman in a long tunic holding a sword, a symbol of divine power and justice. The singer’s voice is accompanied by the sounds of the organ, which creates a solemn and almost mystical atmosphere.
