Nacho Duato Company

The young and promising Nacho Duato Dance Company, which performs regularly in Mallorca, was born out of the collaboration between the renowned choreographer Nacho Duato and some of his former dancers. Its main objective is to preserve the artistic legacy of Duato, who has left an indelible mark on the world of dance. The company tours internationally, presenting Duato’s art on stages all over the world.
As well as preserving Duato’s valuable legacy, the company’s aim is to provide employment opportunities for young dancers, giving them the chance to learn and develop professionally in a highly creative environment.
On 15 May, audiences will be able to enjoy three ballet productions:
The first production is ‘Jardí Tancat’, which means ‘The Closed Garden’ in Catalan. It is based on popular songs about work on land and at sea, and talks not only about the hardships of work, but also about love.
The second production is called Duende. In a playful way, the ballet explores the different meanings of the word ‘duende’ with Debussy’s music. The word can mean being enchanted by the art and magic of flamenco, or in the imagination of superstitious people it can mean evil or good spirits.
Duato has long been in love with Debussy’s music, especially the way the composer turns the sounds of nature into music. Listening to this music, the choreographer visualised forms rather than people, relationships or events. For this reason, ‘Duende’ is considered almost a sculptural work in which the body and movements are in harmony with the melody.
‘Cantus’ is a new production by Nacho Duato, created especially for his young company. It tells the story of the horrors of war through the eyes of young people at the centre of tragic events, how violence and destruction change their lives, accompanied by the moving music of Carl Jenkins, which enhances the depth of the narration and the feelings conveyed.
