Musical “Frida. Painting hope”

“Frida. Painting hope” is a musical and dramatic show in an immersive format dedicated to the life and inner world of the great Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. On stage, a deep and sensual story unfolds, in which an actress simultaneously embodies Frida’s consciousness and subconscious, guiding the viewer through the main milestones of her life and work. The production is inspired by the iconic painting “The two Fridas” (1939), in which the artist represents herself with a double image: a Frida in love, hopeful, dreamy, and another vulnerable, suffering, aware of her loneliness and pain.
The plot is based on the alternation of temporal layers, from the revolutionary Mexico of the 1910s to Frida’s travels to the United States and France. In this audiovisual show, Frida’s paintings come to life before the eyes of the viewer thanks to high-quality animation and an original soundtrack. Emblematic works such as “Broken Column”, “Without Hope”, “Self-portrait with short hair”, “My parents and I” “Henry Ford Hospital” and “Self-Portrait on the Mexican-American border” are not only part of the scenography, but they are also important elements of the narrative that reveal the inner world of the artist.
It is an emotional journey in which painting, theatre and music merge into a single artistic space. “Frida. Painting hope” invites the viewer to know the fate of a woman whose pain became art and whose art became the voice of millions.
