Feast of Virgin Mary del Carmen in Porto Cristo is a traditional summer urban celebration in a coastal town in Mallorca, dedicated to the patron saint of sailors and fishermen. The celebrations run from June 27 to July 23 and include a variety of events throughout the city: concerts, evening fairs, cultural programs, sporting events, children’s activities and public festivities on the embankment. The celebration’s culmination takes place on July 16, when after the solemn mass in the church, a procession will take place where a statue of Virgin Mary is carried to the port. Then begins the maritime procession: decorated boats and fishing vessels will sail out to sea, accompanying the procession along the coast. This is considered the most symbolic and beautiful part of the festival.
