“The Matter Matters”. Martin Mas

”The Matter Matters” exposition by Martin Mas explores the physical aspect of materials in art and their interaction with the environment.
Martin Mas is a contemporary artist and a sculptor from Uruguay, who has lived and worked in Mallorca since 2004. His works mostly include unique wooden statues and on-wall pieces. Mas received a professional education in carpentry, woodwork and painting, which became the foundation for his works. Martin Mas fuses lines, arabesques and elegant silhouettes to create pieces that depict both strength and vulnerability. The sculptor uses various types of wood, sometimes using special colours and textures to highlight its natural properties. For him, the process is more important than the result, which he calls “a trace left by actions”.
Martin Mas’ sculptures are displayed in prestigious galleries all over the world. His works often symbolise balance and freedom, evoking admiration for the sculptor’s talent, his mastery of wood processing and the delicacy of the details.
