The Feast of Saint Christopher
Date: 04.07.2025-13.07.2025
Location: Biniali. Mallorca
From July 4th to 13th, the village of Biniali will host celebrations in honour of Saint Christopher!
Saint Christopher (Sant Cristòfol in Catalan) is one of the most popular christian saints, the patron saint of travellers, drivers and transportation.
According to the legend, the saint was once carrying a small child in his arms, who was gradually becoming heavier. This was Christ, bearing the weight of the entire world. Thus, Christopher received his name, meaning “Christ-bearer” (Greek: Χριστόφορος).
The celebration features the Giant of Saint Christopher (Gegant de Sant Cristòfol), a large traditional figure that is carried in processions in honor of the saint.
The central event is the blessing of vehicles: cars, motorcycles, tractors and others passing through the central square (Plaça Sant Cristòfol), where the priest sprinkles them with holy water, asking for protection on the roads.
On Saturday, July 12th, there will be a party with live music from Orquestra Mallorca, Islanders, DJ Marieta, and DJ TJ & GUTI, as well as a fun “single vs. married” match and a watermelon-eating contest. Sunday, July 13th, will feature the Tòfol Awards Gala Ceremony. The Tòfol Awards recognise creativity and community participation, awarding the best carnival costume, most original swimsuit, and best vehicle decoration.
