“Song and Reflection” by Vanessa Goicoechea and the Majorcan Chapel Choir

Voice takes on the main role in Vanessa Goicoechea’s solo concert programme, which will be accompanied by the Majorcan Chapel Choir and the Symphony Orchestra of the Balearic Islands, conducted by maestro José María Moreno.
The programme includes:
“Requiem for the Living.” A requiem, in its traditional form, is a prayer for peace of the departed. The five parts of composer Dan Forrest’s “Requiem for the Living” (2013) are created both for the living, with their own sufferings and pain, and for the dead. In his piece, Forrest doesn’t focus on the mourning but instead in the light, comfort and hop. He creates music that helps the listeners understand life, find inner peace and overcome the fear of death.
In “Songs of a Wayfarer”, composer and lyricist Gustav Mahler reveals the dark side of love through pages of unique lyrical beauty. He is a true master of writing for an orchestra. The work is distinguished by its combination of modern musical elements, polyphony and rhythmic complexity, which help to create a deep connection with the audience.
