Mary Carewe. Kabarett Berlin.
Date: 18.02.25. Starts at 19:00
Place: Palma. Mallorca
Mary Carewe and Harry the Piano delve into the world of cabaret and political theatre in Berlin between 1900 and 1933. The texts tended to challenge traditional attitudes in society, or comment on the social injustices that presaged the rise of Nazism and Hitler’s chancellorship in 1933. The repertoire includes well-known songs such as ‘Maskulinum-Femininum’ by Spoliansky and Schiffer; the feminist anthem ‘Chuck Out the Men’ by Hollander; the international hit ‘Falling in Love Again – Ich bin von Kopf bis Fuß auf Liebe eingestellt’ by Marlene Dietrich; and ‘Mackie Messer’ and ‘Surabaya Johnny’ by Weill and Brecht.
The show offers a unique mix of music, history and social commentary that captures the spirit of one of the most colourful and controversial eras.
