Lantern festival

Lantern festival 2026 (called Festa de les Llanternes in catalan) is a traditional event that will be held on a Sunday August 24 2026 at 21:00in the town of Alcudia on the island of Mallorca. The festival is organised by the municipality of Alcudia and the Sarau Alcudienc cultural association.
During this colourful and bright festival kids and adults make lanterns out of melons or watermelons, carving different patterns, shapes and symbols. Inside they put candles or lightbulbs and in the evening, a parade of these glowing lanterns is held. It’s an important part of local culture that is preserved and passed through generations.
