Feast of Saint Matthew in Bunyola

The feast of St Matthew (Sant Mateu) in Bunyola is a colorful and special event that is celebrated every year on the 21st of September. The celebrations begin long before this date and carry on for almost a whole month, turning Bunyola into a center of joy and art.
One of the most fun and unusual activities of the holiday is a race. Participants go out into the streets in underwear, often stylized as costumes of Sevillanas, starfish, Hawaiians, policemen or even mourning robes. During this race any, even the most unusual ideas are allowed. The atmosphere is created by lively music and a festive mood while both locals and tourists take part in the celebration.
On that day street parades, concerts, fairs, sport competitions, theatre performances, as well as religious services are held.
