‘Dwelling in Conflict’ exhibition by Ela Fidalgo
Date: 20.01.25-13.04.25
Venue: Palma. Mallorca
Ela Fidalgo’s exhibition ‘Dwelling in Conflict’ will be held at the Casal Solleric Museum.
Ela Fidalgo, a contemporary artist with a background in fashion, works in a variety of art genres including painting, sculpture and installation.
Her new exhibition explores internal and external conflicts related to human behaviour, society and personal experiences. The artist uses different techniques in her work – embroidery, acrylics, fabrics, oils and wax, combining painting, sculpture and installation. Her art is imbued with reflections on the nature of emotions. The exhibition invites the viewer to immerse themselves in a world of reflection on boundaries, identity, social and personal struggles, inviting reflection on how we perceive conflicts and how they shape our reality
One of the installations is a large sculpture of a mother occupying the centre of the museum’s courtyard. This figure, created from a combination of fabrics and emotions sewn by the participants, will become the heart of the space, an offer of protection, attention and care. Mother is home, a place of creativity, where one grows and dreams. This sculpture, is at once intimate, personal and collective.
The second work is a chair with long, welcoming arms, one can sit on it and the arms will embrace. This seemingly simple gesture is a call for meeting, contact, company, comfort. The chair welcomes whoever approaches it, accepts emotions and transforms them, protects you and exposes yourself – it is a way of feeling that art can be a refuge, a place where you can not only observe but also participate and act.
The third work is long fabric arms sprouting from the windows of the loggia of the main façade to establish a metaphorical embrace with the city we live in. These arms reaching outwards not only to passers-by, but also to the urban landscape, to the public space, to the stories that Palma holds in its collective memory. This work makes us think about the city we dream of, a city built on a foundation of conviviality, mutual respect and shared care.
Entrance to the exhibition is free of charge.
