Barocco Jazz by Sury

On March 20th the musical collective “Barroco Jazz by Sury” will perform. It combines two styles that seem very far apart: baroque and jazz. This unusual synthesis reveals the common features of both directions – complex harmony, improvisational elements and virtuosity of performance. The project is characterized by the fact that the cello plays a leading role, an instrument rarely found in jazz. The composition is based on the work of Claude Bolling, an outstanding composer known for his works on the intersection of classical music and jazz. The group, created by the Cuban cellist Sureymis Tapanes, also includes Pere Buhoss (contrabas), Naile Sosa (drums) and Malena Moncadas (piano). The program includes pieces inspired by Afro-Cuban rhythms.
